Compass Underwriting Limited

Our History

Compass was founded out of a Lloyd’s syndicate in 1986 and set itself up as an underwriting agency in 1992 and became incorporated in its present structure in April 1997. Wholly owned by the directors Compass Underwriting is one of the UK’s leading independent Accident and Health underwriting agencies with over 500,000 insureds via 8 underwriting facilities.

Compass’s larger clients include affinity-based schemes for some of the UK’s largest trade unions, police federations, employee benefit products and the SME group market. We market our products through an extensive network of over 800 general insurance brokers including some leading UK wholesalers which further gives us access to over 4,500 independent financial advisors.

Compass is a member of the British Insurance Brokers Association and is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority under Company Reference 304908.

Our Mission

Our primary goal is to provide our intermediaries with products and the necessary administrative support behind them. Unlike many other 3rd party providers we only want to support their brand name and not our own. We also know that these are their clients, not ours, so we provide detailed statistics on sales and income/claims performances so that they can assess the impact and their own marketing strategies.

We therefore specialise in white labelling, product development, underwriting and overall administration of life, critical illness, salary protection, personal accident and sickness, payment protection insurance (including mortgages, loans and debt management, dental, health insurance and travel insurance schemes).

In order to achieve this Compass has invested heavily in its future. A new £250,000 IT system was implemented in 2006 which allows the company to manage increased volume without the need for additional staff. Compass currently operates out of its' Crutched Friars, City of London office located in the heart of the world's insurance industry.
